Dr. HWA, Terence

Dr. Terence Hwa, winner of OYRA in 1993, received his B.S. degrees with honor and distinctions from the departments of physics, biology, and electrical engineering of Stanford Univ in 1986. He was also the recipient of the 1986 Apker Award given by the APS for outstanding undergraduate research in physics. He earned his Ph.D. degree in physics from MIT in 1988. Since then, he has been a post-doctoral fellow in the physics department at Harvard University.

Dr. Hwa was cited for his contributions to the statistical mechanics and dynamics of fluctuating surfaces and flux lines, in particular for elucidating the role of disorder in the origin and consequences of nonlinear responses, and their connections to self-organized criticality.
